Funnel for iPhone — a Great Quick Capture app

Funnel is my new iPhone app for quick capture. Let me introduce you to this iPhone app.

In the early 2000s, I made a significant effort to improve my ability to manage my time, projects, and other complexities in life. One of the things I learned about is the importance of quickly capturing ideas. This concept of quick capture is now deeply embedded in my thinking. (Thank you David Allen)

What is Quick Capture?

The idea is simple. As you have ideas or things you need to do, you quickly write them down before you lose them. You must capture them quickly. It doesn’t mean that you need to do those things at that moment of thought, but you’ve captured the idea, the thought, or the task, and you can process it later, assured you won’t forget it: it is written down!

In those early years, I used a piece of paper and would make a jotted note, and that paper served as my reminder. But as things moved heavily into the digital age, we needed a digital equivalent. Recently, a new application for the iPhone was released that is designed for quick capture with speed and flexibility at the core of its design.

It’s named Funnel and made by the amazing @DharamKapila.

What is Funnel?

Funnel supports quickly capturing those ideas, thoughts, and tasks into a number of applications, such as Apple Reminders, Things, Dev and Think, and, of course, Obsidian.

Funnel supports customization to better tailor the quick capture for each of these applications. Funnel also allows you to have multiple destinations defined for quick capture. So some things you might want to capture to Apple Reminders, like tasks, whereas others you might want to capture as ideas and thoughts to Obsidian or some other application.

Funnel also supports quick capturing of photos, scanning a photo that has text on it into text along with other media types.

The advantage of Funnel is speed.

You have the thought: you open the app, type it, tap the place where you want to send it to, and it’s saved. And then, you can process it later when you have more time.

Please check out my video, in which I do a walkthrough of the features of Funnel to give you an idea of how it can be used.

It’s definitely worth installing and trying.
